Hitting back at Congress’ interim president Sonia Gandhi, the BJP on Wednesday accused her of politicising the large-scale violence that erupted in parts of Delhi and playing “dirty politics”, dismissing her demand for resignation of home minister Amit Shah as “laughable.”
Defending the home minister, Javadekar said that Shah has been in touch with the Delhi police and giving them directions to bring the situation under control for last three days since the violence broke out in parts of the North East Delhi on Sunday evening.
The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting dismissed with smile questions on the provocative remarks of BJP leader Kapil Mishra who has been accused by many of triggering the trouble.
“We believe that the police investigations will bring out the truth as to who were involved in the violence, fired gunshots, killed a policeman, burnt vehicles and who have been involved in provoking (people for violence) for last two months,” he told reporters.
Launching a blistering counter attack at the Congress following Sonia’s accusations against the Union government and home minister, Javadekar in veiled reference to 1984 anti-Sikh riots said those whose hands were “tainted with the blood of innocent Sikhs” were now talking about checking violence.
“At a time when all parties should come together and help in restoration of peace, blaming government instead is dirty politics. It is absolutely wrong to politicise violence. Playing a blame-game at this time is wrong. This is the politics and character of Congress. We condemn it,” Javadekar said.
Slamming the Congress president on the issue, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said her statement was full of politics. He dubbed her remarks as “unfortunate and irresponsible.”
